New Pallet Truck Ready for Delivery to Speira Karmøy

SMV – Sunnhordland Mekaniske Verksted – has completed the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for another specialised industrial vehicle destined for Speira

Over the years, SMV – Sunnhordland Mekaniske Verksted has delivered several vehicles of this type to Speira Karmøy. Each delivery has provided valuable operational feedback, allowing the solution to be continuously refined and improved.

Through close cooperation with operators and technical personnel at the plant, every new vehicle incorporates a number of incremental improvements. These refinements range from usability and operator ergonomics to service accessibility, reliability and overall robustness. In demanding industrial environments such as aluminium rolling plants, equipment must perform reliably under heavy loads and continuous operation. Iterative development based on real operational experience is therefore a key part of how SMV develops and improves its machines.

A couple of weeks ago, the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for the latest vehicle was successfully completed together with representatives from Speira. The test verified that the vehicle meets all technical and functional requirements prior to delivery. The machine is scheduled to leave SMV’s workshop next week and will soon be placed into operation at the Karmøy plant.

The vehicle is designed to handle a total load of 32 tonnes, consisting of a pallet and three large coils of newly produced rolled aluminium products. Handling loads of this size safely and efficiently requires specialised equipment engineered specifically for the task. The vehicle has therefore been developed with a focus on structural strength, operational stability and safe material handling.

SMV designs and manufactures specialised industrial vehicles and machinery for demanding process industries. The company has extensive experience delivering custom-built solutions for aluminium smelters and rolling mills, where standard equipment is often insufficient. By combining mechanical engineering, hydraulic systems and modern electrical control systems, SMV develops machines tailored to the operational needs of each customer.

The continued cooperation with Speira Karmøy represents an important long-term partnership, and SMV looks forward to seeing the new vehicle enter operation at the plant.
